Best Hotels in Rotorua
Rotorua is a wonderful place to visit. Located on the North Island, it’s a stunning city in New Zealand and a must place to visit, even if it’s just to challenge yourself and do the world’s highest drop rafting experience, but this isn’t Rotorua only tourist attraction. In fact there are many free things to do in Rotorua. If you have some spare New Zealand dollar and really want to try something new, check out the top 8 things to see and do in Rotorua.
So if are going to visit here your going to need somewhere to stay. If budgets are tight then why not check out the best hostels to stay at, but with nearly 200 hotels to chose from it was quite hard to pick just one so we have broken it down into several categories based on the star rating
Best 1 Star hotels in Rotorua
Even one-star hotels in the city it will cost you about NZ$50 – NZ$100 a night. Located in the heart of the city is Kuirau Park Motor Lodge. Located about a 15 minute drive from the airport it’s easy to reach after a long flight and has easy access to the lake as well as many of the other attraction Rotorua has to offer.
The hotel has 25 rooms and even has an outdoor swimming pool to relax in after a long day exploring.
Best 2 Star Hotels
There are no 2-star hotels in Rotorua, there are a couple of good hostels which are two stars, but no hotels.
Best 3 Star Hotels
There are a few 3-star hotels and will set you back on average around NZ$100 – NZ$150 a night so will cost you slightly more than a 1 star.
Best Western Braeside Rotorua & Conference Centre is a great three-star hotel, it has everything you need and is located near the Skyline. The hotel is visually stunning and with a heated outdoor pool. The rooms even come equipped with satellite TV and a variety of onsite facilities including a playground and golf course.
Best 4 Star Hotels
I don’t tend to stay in 4 or 5 star hotels unless I am getting someone else to pay for it, I would rather have the extra cash to spend on nice experiences and trying something new. If you haven’t read our Free ebook on how to travel the world for FREE, I would seriously recommend you downloading it.
There are quite a few nice 4 star hotels in the city, but the price does jump up considerably. On average they are going to set you back about NZ$200 a night, one we looked at was over NZ$500 a night. For that price range, I would expect 5 stars.
One of the best 4 star in the region actually is only about NZ$125 a night (depending when you stay). This is the one occasion I would chose a 4 star over a 3 star, it’s the same price so why not enjoy a few other the nicer things. A lot of my 4/5 star experiences are with work so I don’t actually pay for them, so it’s nice sometimes to treat the wife and kids.
Our favourite is the Millennium Hotel Rotorua. The location is perfect for visiting the lake, attractions but also for shopping. It’s perfectly located, actually the location is amazing. Easy to get to and great to use as a base for exploring.
There are all the facilities you would expect from a 4-star hotel including, a sauna, a Jacuzzi and a gym and free parking. The outdoor pool is fantastic for a lazy swim around and a bit of exercise.
The hotel has a great restaurant serving a wide range of food as well as a great bar if you don’t fancy heading into town for a drink or two.
If your looking enough to get a view of the lake (downside the rooms are furthest from reception) on a clear day the view is stunning.
Best 5-star hotels in Rotorua
If you’re going to really treat yourself there isn’t much better way than staying in a luxury 5 star hotel, I wouldn’t recommend it for every trip, but sometimes you have just got to treat yourself. I usually save it for special occasions, weekend I proposed in Paris, anniversary.
So does Rotorua have any 5-star hotels?
Yes, there are a couple of nice 5 star hotels in the city and they are nice but are going to set you back about NZ$300 – NZ$400 a night. So in comparison to some cities, it’s not that expensive and you still get many of the great features.
The one that really stands out is Kawaha Point Lodge, with stunning views of the lake from both the rooms and the outdoor garden / patio area. It features a pool, sauna-like the 4 star hotels, but it also has a onsite golf course to help you unwind.
The hotel has a restaurant and bar where guest can unwind after a long day and enjoy the view over the lake.
Actually, it’s these views of the lake which really sell this place and is why I would recommend this place.
Again if you’re after a more affordable accommodation why not consider staying in a hostel. If you are thinking of heading to Rotorua and not sure what to do and explore, check out these articles.
